SAF Games: India defeat Pakistan in soccer

India defeated host Pakistan by 1-0 after disputed penalty decision by the UAE referee Mohammad Khamis in the crucial football match of pool 'A' played at Army Stadium, Rawalpindi.
Pakistan coach Tariq Lutfi said that the penalty kick given by the referee was unjustified as the Pakistan player Zahid Hameed was on 18 yards line.
He said that the advantage should be given to the defending team but the referee did not do so and Pakistan lost this important game due to wrong decision.
However, he refused to register a complaint and said that his team had accepted the result of the match, stating that Indian team played better.
Pakistan team was lacking in strategy when it faced arch rivals India and played defensively going under pressure before the match.
Meanwhile, Pakistan on Tuesday beat Nepal in the opening volleyball match of 9th SAF games with big margin. Pakistan won the match by 3-0.
The host team was in full form and clinched the first set by 25-17 in 19 minutes.
After losing the first set, Nepalese in nervousness lost the game. Sajid Nawaz, Muhammad Elahi, Zafar Iqbal, Bakht Risal, Muhammad Tuffail were in spectacular form.
The second and third games lasted for 19 and 18 minutes respectively. Nepal players Bharat Bahadur Shah, Pratap Khawas and Ramanda Singh played brilliant game to save their team from defeat but to no avail.
In another match, India defeated Afghanistan who is making maiden appearance in these games.
India won the match in straight sets by 3-0. India won the first set by 25-14 in 16 minutes and swept second and third as well by 25-10 and 25-10 in 17 and 18 minutes respectively.
The tallest athlete of games Subba Rao, Tom Joseph, Kulvant, Amir Singh and Kapil Dev were the heroes of India while Ahmad Tawab Sharafi, Munir Qazi Zada, Aimal Emami and Mustafa played impressive game from Afghanistan side.
