Noted TV and film actress, producer and director Ms Samina Peerzada, has exhorted schoolchildren to be proud of their cultural heritage.
Speaking as the chief guest at the 5th PSO Karavan MeraPakistan Programme at the PSO House on Friday, Samina Peerzada asked the children to be confident as "we meet the world and not to be overwhelmed by other cultures and life-styles.
Her speech followed the historical theatre on chapters from Mughal History, performed at the PSO House, Karachi.
The fifth event in the series was devoted to celebration of the national heritage in which The Hamptor School, Happy Home School, Woodland School, Shahwilayat Public School, S. M. Aga Khan School and Beaconhouse School System helped trace the history of the golden period of the Mughal empire.
The theatrical performances brought to life the eras of emperors Babur, Humayun, Akbar, Jahangir, Shah Jahan and Aurangzeb.
The Mughal theatre is the beginning of a series of theatre productions, which are being planned by the Karvan Pakistan team for enlivening world Heritage sites of Pakistan to make the general public aware of the world famous historical treasures that Pakistan possesses.
Earlier, the historical theatre was performed at the World Heritage site of the Shahi Qila, Lahore as a part of a 3-day Karvan MeraVirsa Heritage Fest, held in collaboration with PSO, Unesco and Ministry of Culture and Youth Affairs.
The purpose was to engage young people in developing identification and pride with their heritage through mural painting and historical theatre.
The Lahore Heritage Fest was the first heritage activity of Karvan Pakistan outside Karachi after holding its celebrated Karvan Heritage Streetfests and Karavan Sea Karnival Parade since 2001.
The PSO Karavan Mera Pakistan events are designed to inculcate a sense of responsibility regarding rule of law, the environment, human rights, culture and heritage among schoolchildren.-PR
