Anti-Dengue Day on April 6

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Secretary Khizar Hayat Gondal has directed all divisional commissioners to improve mechanism for dengue surveillance and reporting besides taking special measures for larviciding and ensuring availability of anti-mosquito spray.

He was presiding over a video-link meeting regarding dengue control at Civil Secretariat here on Wednesday.

Addressing the meeting, the chief secretary said all necessary arrangements, including procurement of insecticides and recruitment of staff, be completed in time.

He said concerted efforts were needed to eradicate dengue once and for all.

He directed all secretaries to extend full cooperation in anti-dengue activities and ensure full participation in Anti-dengue Day to be observed throughout the province on April 6.

He ordered Health Secretary Ali Jan to speed up process of recruitment to posts of Assistant Entomologists and Environment Inspectors in 5 towns of Lahore besides recruitment of staff in districts on priority basis.

The chief secretary also directed commissioners of Rawalpindi and Multan division that keeping in view the last year's experience a better strategy be adopted to cope with dengue during current year and situation be monitored regularly.

He maintained that there was need to work with national spirit for eradicating dengue. He said awareness regarding dengue should be enhanced as peoples cooperation was of significant importance in the efforts to control dengue.

He mentioned that all departments should play active role in this regard.

Secretary Health Ali Jan gave detailed briefing about measures being taken to control dengue. The meeting was attended by Adviser on Health Khwaja Salman Rafique, Dr Waseem Akram and officers concerned.
