Ibexes cause major upset for Falcons in T20 Cup

ISLAMABAD: Pitching for the first time in the Faysal Bank Twenty-20 Cup, Dera Murad Jamali Ibexes caused a major tention for Abbottabad Falcons by hammering them by 11 runs in the match played at Pindi Stadium, Rawalpindi on Friday.

Put into bat, Jamali Ibexes posted a total of 35 runs for the loss of five wickets in the reduced five-over match due to the wet outfield. Mohammad Ayub and Sanaullah scored 8 runs each while Kamran Sajid (4) and Taimur Ali (3) batted well. Abid Ali remained unbeaten at 7 runs.

For Falcons, Fazl-e-Rabbi and Yasir Shah bagged two wickets each for 11 and 9 runs, respectively. Junaid Khan grabbed one wicket for 7 runs.

In reply, Falcons could hardly make 24 runs in the allotted overs losing 7 wickets. Yasir Hameed top scored with 11 runs smashing two 4s while Riaz Kail was the other batsman to bat well scoring 8 runs. For Jamali Ibexes, Shabbir Ali and Kamran Sajid took two wickets each for 8 and 1 runs, respectively. Najaf Shah bagged one wicket giving 3 runs. Kamran Sajid of Dera Murad Jamali Ibexes was declared Player of the match.

The Twenty20 Cup matches are being staged at four different venues of Islamabad and Rawalpindi with seventeen teams battling for the title. The tournament will continue till February 16 and the matches are being played at venues including Diamond Ground, Marghazar Ground, National Cricket Ground and Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.

A total of 17 teams have been divided into four groups. Group A: Sialkot Stallions, Karachi Dolphins, Hyderabad Hawks, Quetta Bears and Larkana Bulls; Group B: Rawalpindi Rams, Karachi Zebras, Multan Tigers and Fata Cheetahs; Group C: Faisalabad Wolves, Islamabad Leopards, Lahore Eagles and Peshawar Panthers; Group D: Lahore Lions, Abbottabad Falcons, Bahawalpur Stags and D.M.Jamali Ibexes.

Teams of D.M.Jamali Ibexes, Fata Cheetahs and Larkana Bulls are participating in the event for the first time. Faysal Bank will be awarding a total of Rs 2 million as prize money to the winning team while Rs 1 million to the runner-ups.
