'Mango, citrus orchards must get fertilizers mix in Dec'

MULTAN: Agriculture experts have urged growers to apply a mixture of chemical and organic fertilizers in the on- going month of December to get good production.

Mango and citrus orchards should get mixture of Phosphorous, Potash, Zinc and animal waste fertilizers and then water be applied as per expert advice while avoiding excessive irrigation that can be harmful in winter season, says a release issued by media liaison unit of Punjab agriculture department here Friday.

Each plant of mango orchards should get two kilogram of triple super phosphate, one kg Urea, 2 kg SOP, 10 kg gypsum and 80 kg animal waste organic fertilizers.

The fertilizers combination per plant at citrus orchards should be 60 kilogram of animal waste fertilizers, 750 gram Phosphorous, 500 gram Potash, and 50 gram Zinc Sulphate.

For control of pests, growers should perform hoeing carefully and then apply suitable pesticides. Small plants should be covered for safety against extreme cold or frosty conditions.

Experts said that citrus fruit should be harvested while using sharp edged tools to avoid damage to fruit and keep it in best shape suitable for export.

After the harvest diseased branches be cut and Bordo mixture or Copper pesticide be applied.
