LHC bars NAB from arresting Shehbaz Sharif till June 17

Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif appeared on Wednesday before the Lahore High Court in a case of assets beyond known source of income.

The PML-N leader sought bail in the assets beyond means and money laundering case. During the hearing today, the LHC barred the National Accountability Bureau from arresting Sharif till June 17.

The high court granted pre-arrest bail to the Leader of the Opposition in National Assembly and asked him to submit surety bond worth Rs500,000.

On Tuesday, a NAB team reached Shehbaz’s residence to arrest him. The team stayed there for more than an hour after the PML-N leader failed to appear before it.

Shehbaz failed to appear before the bureau for the third time and cited health concerns.

In his statement the PML-N president said that coronavirus cases were rising and he is a cancer survivor and 69 years old. He further said that it was reported that several members of the accountability watchdog have also tested positive.
