public-aISLAMABAD: The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has recovered Rs. 180 billion of the looted national wealth from unscrupulous elements said by Yasmeen Rehman MNA Pakistan People's Party on Thursday.

 

She said while addressing the participants of the seminar held here under the aegis of National Accountability Bureau(NAB) in connection with observation of international anti-corruption week.

 

The NAB had organized a declamation contest at NUML on the subject of "National Development is a Function of Democracy,Rule of Law and Accountability".

 

Students from private and public schools, colleges and universities of the twin cities participated in the contest. On this occasion, she praised the role of NAB and stated that NAB has given 90 percent results in all cases referred to it by the PAC.

 

She further stated that representatives of NAB were permanently asked to participate in the PAC meetings, and NAB has always been ready to deliver whatever is asked of it in the investigation of corruption cases.

 

She said that such events should be held to create awareness in the students and general public. She also stressed the need for a closer coordination and cooperation among the anti-corruption agencies of the country and international partner organizations.

 

The chief guest also invited the public attending the seminar to visit the PAC meetings and watch its proceedings.

 

In their speeches, the students threw light on the relation between a strong culture of rule of law and strong democratic order in the country.

 

They were of the openion that democracy without true respect for law and constitution leads to corruption and ultimate winding up of the system.

 

Director General NAB-Rawalpindi Col. (R) Subah Sadiq Malik highlighted NAB's achievements and its efforts to create awareness among youth.

 

He said that NAB has recovered hundreds of billions of looted national wealth. He stated that under the leadership of the new chairman NAB, awareness and prevention are given top priority for curbing corruption.

 

He thanked the Chief Guest, audience and particularly the participating students in the essay writing, poster competitions and declamation contests.

 

At the end, the DG NAB (R ) and the Chief guest distributed prizes among the winners of essay writing and poster competitions, and declamation contest.
