farmers 400RAWALPINDI: Punjab government will distribute around 392 subsidized tractors among youth residing in rural areas of the Rawalpindi district under the Green Tractor Scheme.

The scheme has been launched to effectively engage the younger generation in farming sector, which is considered backbone of the national economy, sources in the District Coordination Officer (DCO)?s office told APP.

The district government has received 2,565 applications from the youth of Kahuta, Kotli Sattian, Murree, Taxila, Kallar Syedan and Gujjar Khan, they said, adding ?Scrutiny of the applications is underway after which around 392 tractors will be given to successful candidates through a transparent ballot.?

Under the Green Tractor Scheme, Punjab government will distribute 20,000 tractors among the rural youth, within the age bracket of 18-30 years, across the province.

The provincial government has allocated more than four billion rupees for the scheme under which Rs200,000 will be given as subsidy on each tractor, while rest of the cost will be paid by the selected farmer.
