  •  Jamaat-ud-Dawa Chief Hafiz Saeed was indicted on Wednesday by an anti-terrorism court in Lahore.
  • Alice Wells called on Pakistan to bring the perpetrators of terrorist attacks to justice.

The US State Department has welcomed the indictment of Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD) Chief Hafiz Saeed and others in terror financing case.

In a tweet on Thursday, US Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia Alice Wells called on Pakistan to ensure a full prosecution and expeditious trial in line with its international obligations to counter terrorist financing.

Wells further called on Pakistan to bring the perpetrators of terrorist attacks like 26/11 to justice.

Saeed and his associates were indicted by an anti-terrorism court on Wednesday. The hearing was adjourned after the court summoned the prosecution's witnesses.

Saeed was arrested in July by the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD). The CTD arrested the JuD chief when he was travelling to Gujranwala from Lahore. On July 3, the CTD registered several cases against Saeed for terror financing and money laundering. The department said the JuD was allegedly financing terrorism from funds collected through non-profit organisations and trusts.
