  • The latest price hike of electricity was done due to September's fuel price adjustment.
  • The price hike will be reflected in the electricity bills of the month of December.

Adding more pressure on the consumers, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) hiked on Thursday electricity tariff by Rs1.82 per unit.

As per the notification issued by the power regulator, the latest electricity price hike was done under fuel adjustment charges for the month of  September. The price hike will be reflected in the electricity bills of the coming month. The hike is applicable to all the consumer categories except lifeline consumers.

“The adjustment an increase of Rs.1.82661kWh shall be applicable to all the consumer categories except lifeline consumers of all the Ex-WAPDA Distribution Companies (XWDISCOs). The said adjustment shall be shown separately in the consumers' bills on the basis of units billed to the consumers in the month of September 2019 by the XWDISCOs. XWDISCOs shall reflect the fuel charges adjustment in respect of September 2019 in the billing month of December 2019,” read the notification.

“While affecting the Fuel Adjustment Charges, the concerned XWDISCOs shall keep in view and strictly comply with the orders of the courts notwithstanding this order,” added the notification.

Just days ago, Nepra announced an increase in electricity tariff by Rs 1.82 per unit. The decision was taken on account of fuel price adjustment for September, 2019. The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) had requested Nepra to raise prices by Rs.2.97 per unit, after hearing CPPA's arguments Nepra raised electricity prices by Rs1.82 under the head of monthly fuel price adjustment.
