Egypt buys 240,000 tonnes of Romanian and Ukrainian wheat

CAIRO/HAMBURG: Egypt's state grain buyer, the General Authority for Supply Commodities (GASC) bought 240,000 tonnes of wheat in an international tender on Friday to be sourced from Romania and Ukraine, GASC said.

The purchase involves 180,000 tonnes from Romania and 60,000 tonnes from Ukraine.

GASC had sought an unspecified volume of wheat for shipment from May 20 to June 5.

GASC did not give prices. Offers in the tender had been reported earlier on Friday.

Traders gave this breakdown of purchases, with country of origin, port of loading, seller, FOB price and c&f price per tonne:

- 60,000 tonnes Romanian, Constanta loading from CHS at $228.17 FOB plus freight charge of $11.70 equating to $239.87 c&f

- 60,000 tonnes Romanian, Constanta loading from Ameropa  at $228.17 FOB plus freight charge of $11.70 equating to $239.87

- 60,000 tonnes Romanian, Constanta loading from Ameropa at $229.57 FOB plus freight charge of $10.40 equating to $239.97 c&f  - 60,000 tonnes Ukrainian, Odessa loading from Dreyfus at $226.60 FOB plus freight charge of $13.40 equating to $240.00 c&f.

US wheat had been offered lowest in FOB terms in the tender but had been hindered by higher ocean shipping costs, one German trader said.
