Jordan issues new tender to buy 120,000 tonnes of wheat

Published Updated

HAMBURG: Jordan's state grain buyer has issued an international tender to buy 120,000 tonnes of milling wheat which can be sourced from optional origins, European traders said on Wednesday.

The tender deadline is March 26.

A new tender had been expected after Jordan made no purchase in its previous tender for 120,000 tonnes on wheat on Tuesday when only two trading companies took part.

Jordan has faced difficulties buying wheat and barley in tenders in past months after changed terms for quality specifications and payment reduced participation by international trading houses.

No purchases were made in Jordan's previous tenders for wheat on March 12 and March 5. Jordan did buy 60,000 tonnes in a tender on Feb. 26, after also seeking offers for 120,000 tonnes.

The new wheat tender seeks shipment in a range of possible combinations in 60,000 tonne consignments. Possible shipment periods are Sept. 1-15, Sept. 16-30 and Oct. 1-15.
