Ukraine starts spring grain sowing

KIEV: Farmers from Ukraine's southern Kherson region have started the 2019 spring grain sowing, taking advantage of favourable weather, analyst ProAgro said on Monday.

Farmers are sowing spring barley, it said in a report.

In 2018, Ukraine started field works in mid-March.

Ukraine's 2019, spring grains sowing area will total 7.2 million hectares, the same level as in 2018, the agriculture ministry said.

Overall grain area is likely to total 14.8 million hectares in the 2018/19 season, it said.
