TEHRAN: The tourism industry of Iran has shown growth despite sanctions imposed by the United States, Iran's Vice President and Head of Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization (ICHTO) Ali Asghar Munesan has said.
At the opening ceremony of 12th International Exhibition of Tourism and Related Industries in Tehran, , Munesan while referring to the tourism industry's capacity to create jobs said the arrival of tourists to Iran now exceeded six million, and this figure seemed to reach seven million by the end of the current Iranian year.
“Iran's economy needs to have other incomes, such as the tourism industry, along with oil, non-oil revenues and taxes," Munesan said as quoted by IRNA.
The vice president announced the interest of domestic and foreign investors in investing in the tourism industry in Iran, adding that this is a sign of growth in the tourism industry in Iran.
According to Munesan, investment in the tourism sector in Iran is booming, and 2,000 projects are underway.
