HAMBURG: Turkey's state grain board TMO bought a total of some 342,000 tonnes of corn in a series of international tenders which closed on Friday, European traders said on Monday.
The TMO had issued 38 separate tenders each of 9,000 tonnes. The corn was bought in two shipment periods: One between Jan. 28 and Feb. 17 and the other between Feb. 25 and March 17.
The origin of the corn is optional but rapid loading requirements in practice limit the possible supplier countries.
Traders said the Black Sea and other European supplies would have an advantage.
