ISLAMABAD: The Chairman of Hurriyat forum, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, has urged the UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, to take immediate action to implement the recommendations of the report of UN High Commissioner for Human Rights on Kashmir.

According to Kashmir Media Service (KMS), Mirwaiz Umar Farooq said the people of Kashmir welcomed the UN High Commissioner on Human Rights long overdue report on grave human rights violations and urged the UN Secretary General to take immediate steps and implement the recommendations of the report.

Antonio Guterres addressing a press conference at the UN Headquarters in New York, yesterday, in response to a question on the human rights situation in occupied Kashmir stated that the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights has produced recently a very detailed report thus the UN has clearly done its job in that regard.

The UN report issued on 14th June 2018 had maintained that the Indian forces’ personnel were engaged in unlawful killings by using brute force, sexual violence against female-folk and the use of one of the most dangerous weapons pellet-firing shotguns against civilian population in the occupied territory. It has also called for setting up of a Commission of Inquiry – the World Body’s highest-level probe – to investigate these abuses.

Antonio Guterres also expressed the hope that Pakistan and India will be able to engage in a meaningful dialogue to resolve their disputes.
