Industrial engineering UET Peshawar holds conference to identify problems
The Department of Industrial Engineering, UET Peshawar organized a two day national conference on "Professional Trends in Industrial Systems Engineering 2018, here on Tuesday. The aim of the conference is to provide platform for bringing together researchers, scientists and engineers from academia and industry to exchange/share their expertise and their research findings. The conference will further give opportunity to the Scientists and Engineers to identify the problems in industrial engineering.
Engr Javed Saleem Qureshi, Chairman PEC was the chief guest on the occasion. He said PEC in a short span of time had made several reforms to improve the system and urged the universities to get apace with latest developments and show improvement by introducing reforms in their governance, adding it was only universities and researchers which can change the destiny of Pakistan not any other institution.
He also encouraged the young students to apply engineering knowledge through entrepreneurship. "You will not find jobs in the market, so instead for looking towards saturated job market, get prepared for applying your innovative ideas which does not need huge money but your potential to lead and drive your career", he remarked.
Professor Dr Iftikhar Hussain, Vice Chancellor UET Peshawar said that Industrial engineering is an emerging field and very soon the landscape of industries will change in Pakistan, adding, it was important to learn from the best practices through such conferences.
He said, soon UET Peshawar would adopt the Outcome Based Education System under the directives of PEC. He appreciated the efforts of Dr Misbah Ullah, Conference Secretary for successful organization of the conference.
The Guest of Honour, Engr. Adil Khattak, CEO Attock Refineries Ltd said, engineers need to develop entrepreneurship and communication skills an emotional intelligence besides academic and theoretic engineering knowledge to compete in the market.
Dr M Khurshed Khan Vice Chancellor Wali Khan University in the current era of industrial revolution 4.0, his is an era of fourth industrial revolution (Industry 4.0) but Pakistan is still living in the second industrial revolution (Industry 2.0) era. Pakistan was lagging far behind the rest of the world as the developed countries have started using Artificial Intelligence to maximize the production of the industrial sector.
Professor Dr Sahar Noor, Chairman Department of Industrial Engineering welcomed the participants and spoke on latest developments in industrial systems and urged the participants to raise critical questions so that real world research could take place.
