PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakthunkhwa Government has intensified operation against power stealer in the province and recovered about Rs. 48 million outstanding amount from electricity defaulters in Bannu and Peshawar districts.

Officials in Energy Department KP told APP on Wednesday that operation against power stealers and defaulters were continued in the province and about Rs. 4,8000,000 outstanding amount were recovered from electricity defaulters in Bannu and Peshawar.

In the first phase, operation against power stealer were launched in Bannu and Peshawar districts on October 29, 2018, and alter it was extended to all districts on December 3 this month. During last one week, the official said Rs. 1,00,54,300 outstanding amount were recovered from defaulters in Bannu and Peshawar districts.

The wide spread operation is being conducted indiscriminately and actions are being taken against domestic, commercial and industrial consumers involved in power pilferage.

He said 19 FIRs were registered against power stealer in Bannu and Peshawar and 36 accused were arrested.

The official said electricity related equipments and goods worth Rs. 6.5 million were recovered and 269 people involved in unlawful use of electricity through direct hocks were caught red handed.

Any accused proved guilty for stealing of electricity or tempering of meters would be awarded three to seven years imprisonment and imposition of Rs one million to Rs 10 million fine or both.

He said monitoring desk has setup in KP energy department to monitor campaign against power stealing in KP.

The Deputy Commissioners are supervising operation in their respective districts being conducted with assistance of PESCO staff.
