DUBAI/HAMBURG: Jordan's trade ministry bought 60,000 tonnes of barley at its international purchasing tender, a government source said on Wednesday.

Jordan bought the barley at $262.95 a tonne, cost and freight included, from Olam, for shipment in March, it said.

Nine other trading companies took part in the tender, an usually large number.

Glencore and GTCS offered $266 a tonne C&F; LDC offered $271; Ameropa offered $272; Hakan offered $274, while Aston offered $275; Viking Trading offered $286, Cofco offered $278.47 and Bunge offered $274, traders said.

Jordan had struggled to buy wheat and barley in tenders earlier this year after new terms for specification and payment reduced participation by international trading houses. Some recent tenders, however, have been more successful.
