The office bearers of Sindh Growers Alliance (SGA) has protested against the Sindh government for not setting up wheat procurement cell and fixing Rs 1400 support price per maund. The protest was held outside Hyderabad Press Club (HPC) on Monday where a large number of growers participated in it.
Later, addressing a press conference at the HPC, Nawab Zubair Talpur, Advocate Ali Palh and others said that 50 per cent of wheat crop had been harvested but so far the Sindh government has neither fixed its support price nor established any wheat procurement cell.
While the contracts of procurement are being given to private distributors who have fixed wheat price of 1100 rupees per maund and the growers had not either got proper rate for sugarcane, they said. The water of Rohri Canal is closed every year for 15 to 20 days, they said, adding that this year it remained closed from 5th January to 17th February due to which crops of vegetables, sugarcane and wheat crop have badly been hit.
