"The Punjab government and the Punjab Information Technology Board have launched a project aiming at eliminating sale and purchase of fake stamp papers while their online verification will be possible through mobile phone or the Internet." Senior Member of the Board of Revenue Nadeem Ashraf said this in a seminar on e-stamping. The Punjab Co-operatives Department, Punjab Information Technology Board and the Punjab Board of Revenue jointly organised the seminar.
Co-operative Secretary Babar Hayat Tarar was the chief guest of the seminar. Officers from the Co-operative Housing Societies, the Revenue Department, Defence Housing and Lahore Development Authorities, media representatives also attended the seminar. Senior Member of the Board of Revenue Ashraf while addressing the seminar has said, "E-stamping is an important step by the Punjab chief minister which will not only improve good governance and transparency but also eliminate the long standing problem of common citizens. In the beginning, the process of verification of stamp paper of Rs 1,000 and above will start in Lahore next week and after successful experience this facility will be provided throughout the province." He also said a 32-A fine form would also be available online for depositing stamp paper fee or duty and that earlier people had to visit Treasury office for verification of stamp paper which was a complicated and non transparent process and there was complaints of frauds and sale and purchase of fake stamp papers.
"Now through this modern technology, services free from stakes will be available speedily," he added. Co-operative Secretary Tarar said, "Because of this project forgery will be eliminated and government receipts will increase.
