HAMBURG: The Taiwan Flour Millers' Association purchased 95,350 tonnes of milling wheat to be sourced from the United States in an international tender which closed on Tuesday, European traders said.

The wheat was bought in two consignments for shipment from the U.S. Pacific North West coast.

The first consignment for shipment between Aug. 8-22 involved 25,450 tonnes of U.S. dark northern spring wheat of 14.5 percent protein content bought from trading house CHS at $257.84 a tonne FOB U.S. Pacific North West coast, traders said.

Another 15,350 tonnes of hard red winter wheat of 12.5 percent protein content was bought at $244.75 a tonne FOB and 7,775 tonnes of soft white wheat with 9 percent protein was bought at $224.54 a tonne FOB. Both purchases were made from Columbia Grain.

The first consignment has an additional freight charge of $33.00 a tonne for ocean shipping from the U.S. Pacific North West coast to Taiwan, they said.

The second consignment for shipment between Aug. 25 and Sept. 8 involved 25,100 tonnes of dark northern spring wheat of 14.5 percent protein content bought at $258.35 a tonne FOB.

The second consignment also included 15,300 tonnes of hard red winter wheat of 12.5 percent protein content bought at $247.34 a tonne FOB and 6,375 tonnes of western white wheat with 9 percent protein bought at $227.73 a tonne FOB.

The second consignment has an additional charge of $34.02 a tonne for ocean shipping from the U.S. Pacific North West coast to Taiwan, they said.

The second consignment was all sold by Columbia Grain, they said.

In its last reported tender on May 16, the association purchased 83,350 tonnes of milling wheat also sourced from the United States.
