Descon Engineering Ltd has achieved another major milestone in alleviating the energy shortfall by the landmark completion of the 404 MW Combined Cycle Power Plant (CCPP) at Dera Murad Jamali, Balochistan. On the auspicious occasion of the inauguration of the plant, we congratulate the owners - GDF Suez, our consortium Partners - Hyundai Engineering and Construction Co Ltd, Owner's Engineers - URS, Lenders - ADB, our own teams and subcontractors & vendors, who took up the challenge and turned it into a success story.
The EPC consortium of Descon Engineering Ltd and Hyundai Engineering and Construction Co Ltd designed the plant to productively use low Btu gas to feed it. Despite challenges, the Uch-II Project has been completed within the stipulated time, which is a testament to the dedication and professionalism of people associated with the development and implementation stages of this Independent Power Plant (IPP). All stakeholders, the federal and provincial governments, regulators, authorities and the people all deserve recognition for their support and contributions.
The plant's salient features include two General Electric Gas Turbines, Two Heat Recovery Generators and a Steam Turbine. The civil engineering for the entire plant was carried out by Descon Engineering Ltd, along with the EPC scope of the Balance of Plant (BoP) utilities such as cooling water, compressed air systems, electrical systems and substation works. The overall construction and the safe transportation of the critical equipment including heavy lifts were all successfully executed by the Descon team. Significant local employment was generated during the construction phase. As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility, Descon provided food and shelter to more than 100 families affected by heavy flooding during the monsoon season of 2012.
Uch-II is a significant achievement in enhancing Descon's EPC (Engineering, Procurement & Construction) credentials. The cumulative experience of executing projects on an EPC basis exceeds 1000 MW. The expertise developed by Descon for EPC Services now makes it the only Pakistani company with a proven track record for offering solutions on fossil fuel (gas/coal) and renewable (hydro/wind) sources of energy. Currently Descon is executing its third Wind Power Plant and a Hydro-Electric Plant on an EPC basis. Previous projects include: Halmore, Kot Addu, Rousch, Altern, Muzaffargarh, Liberty, Hubco, etc.
