ISLAMABAD: The government and Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Pakistan have held consultations on measures to ease the impact of petroleum prices on the general public, particularly low-income households.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister (DPM/FM) Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar met a JI delegation led by Liaquat Baloch on Tuesday at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA).

The meeting was attended by Minister for Planning and Development, Ahsan Iqbal; the Prime Minister’s Adviser on Inter-Provincial Coordination and Political Affairs, Rana Sanaullah Khan; SAPM Tariq Bajwa, Secretary, Finance; and the Special Secretary.

The meeting focused on exploring practical options for providing financial relief to ordinary citizens amid global economic pressures.

Both sides exchanged views on energy pricing and agreed to maintain consultations over the coming days to work out a possible course of action.

Dar reiterated the government’s commitment to protecting public welfare and addressing the economic difficulties faced by ordinary citizens. He also underscored the importance of political engagement and cross-party consultations in dealing with national economic challenges.

The statement said, “The two sides held candid discussions on practical measures to provide relief to the common man, with a specific focus on easing the economic burden on low-income citizens. Both sides agreed to continue their consultations over the coming days to formulate a way forward on energy pricing and public relief.”
