QUETTA: Security forces killed a terrorist commander during an intelligence-based operation in Balochistan’s Qila Saifullah district, security sources said on Sunday.

The commander was identified as Adil Shah, alias Darvesh, who the sources said had been affiliated with the Fitna al-Khawarij since December 2020.

According to the sources, Shah had overseen the group’s financial affairs since 2024 and helped arrange accommodation for militants from outside the region in Zhob, Sherani and Shaban.

Security sources said Shah had been involved in attacks on security forces, kidnapping for ransom and extortion during 2022 and 2023.

They added that 19 cases had been registered against him in anti-terrorism courts and that a bounty of Rs2.5 million had been announced for information leading to his capture. The operation was conducted as part of security forces’ counterterrorism efforts in Balochistan under the framework identified by the sources as Operation Radd-ul-Fitna 3.
