NCCIA busts child pornography network

Published Updated

ISLAMABAD: The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has claimed to have busted an international network involved in child pornography.

Addressing at a press conference, Additional Director NCCIA Islamabad Circle Muhammad Shoaib Khan said that the agency dismantled a gang allegedly involved in producing and selling indecent videos of children aged six to fourteen years through secret Telegram groups via cryptocurrency. He said that for the first time in the country’s history, a father was allegedly found involved in such a heinous crime with his own children. Investigators also uncovered disturbing footage involving animal abuse, he said.

Khan stated that the ringleader of the network, who belongs to Skardu has been arrested with the help of international agencies. During the investigation important links were found in Islamabad, Multan and southern Punjab. Different teams from the agency are conducting raids to arrest other accused and facilitators of the network, he said.

The NCCIA additional director said that in another case, a minor girl from Karachi attempted to commit suicide after allegedly facing continued harassment. The girl is presently admitted to a hospital, he said, adding that the NCCIA team, with the assistance of the victim’s family, traced and arrested the main accused in Islamabad within 13 hours.

He said that the accused had allegedly been harassing the girl continuously for the last two to three years.

Khan asked social media users to exercise caution and think carefully before uploading or sharing inappropriate content online. Individuals involved in uploading unlawful material would be held accountable under the law, he said.

He said that complaints could be lodged by calling the agency’s helpline 1799, which, according to him, provides a 24-hour service.
