LAHORE: The admission policy for MBBS and BDS courses in public and private medical and dental colleges of Punjab for the 2026-27 academic session has been issued.

The University of Health Sciences (UHS), Lahore, acting as the “Admitting University,” will conduct central admissions for MBBS and BDS courses in public and private sector medical and dental institutions/colleges in Punjab for the 2026-27 session.

Mandatory weightage for admission is 50 percent for MDCAT, 40 percent for FSc (Pre-Medical)/HSSC or equivalent, and 10 percent for Matric/SSC or equivalent. Passing the MDCAT examination is mandatory for admission eligibility. Candidates must have obtained a Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC) qualification or an equivalent 12th-grade qualification recognized in Pakistan (in which case an IBCC equivalence certificate is mandatory) with a minimum of 60 percent marks. Candidates must have passed the Higher Secondary School Certificate examination or an equivalent Grade 12 qualification recognized in Pakistan with Biology and Chemistry as compulsory subjects and Physics or Mathematics as elective subjects. In accordance with the Pakistan Medical and Dental Undergraduate Education (Admissions, Curriculum, and Conduct) Policy and Regulations 2025, and the judgment of the six-member bench in the ‘suo motu’ case dated April 4, 2023, no additional marks will be awarded for ‘Hifz-e-Quran’ for admission to medical and dental colleges.

Students applying for admission to public and private sector medical and dental colleges must submit a list of preferences. For the private sector, there is no restriction on the number of colleges a candidate may select. For the public sector, the candidate must select all colleges in order of preference. Applications may be modified up to the submission deadline; however, the number and order of preferences cannot be altered after the online submission deadline. Any college not included in the student’s preference list will not be considered for admission or upgradation.

Students admitted to private sector institutions may exercise the option to waive their right to upgradation at the time of joining an institution. Once exercised, this option shall be final and cannot be altered or revoked at any subsequent stage. The admission process will be conducted via an online portal. Each candidate must apply separately for the medical or dental program; a student who does not apply for a specific program will not be eligible for admission to that program.

Selected candidates must deposit the prescribed college fee within three working days of the merit list being displayed. The university will prepare college-wise selection lists based on candidates’ merit and preferences, utilizing a fair digital system developed or procured by the university.

For admissions to public sector institutions excluding those under the overseas and foreign quotas the annual tuition fee for public sector MBBS/BDS programs will be fifty thousand (50,000) rupees. Overseas Pakistanis selected for open merit seats will pay the same fee as Pakistani students.
