PESHAWAR: Flour millers set a week deadline for halting of the forced supply of floodwater spoiled/ damaged wheat to mills in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa; otherwise, they will decide future line of action and not hesitate to take stringent steps.

Pakistan Flour Mills Association Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chairman Muhammad Naeem Butt while addressing a press conference here at the Association office on Wednesday said that the wheat stored at government godowns was spoiled due to floodwater but the food department is mixing the damaged wheat in fresh wheat and then supply to flour mills across the province.

However, he described the damaged wheat in floodwater worth Rs 3 Billion as a ‘colossal’ loss to the provincial exchequer.

Butt said the mixed wheat is harmful for health, so they cannot use such wheat in flour and not compromise on human life.

He said supply of quality and standardized flour is the flour mills topmost priority, He made it clear that they will not buy and sale the mixed damaged wheat flour.

He furthermore sought proactive steps for save storage of the wheat stock at the government godown from floodwater.

To a question about rising flour prices in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, he said wheat and flour supply was suspended due to hurdles in the way to the province, resultantly prices went up exorbitantly in the local market and people have compelled to buy flour at higher rates.

Butt urged KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi to play a role in resolving the wheat crisis and issues of flour millers.
