KARACHI: United Business Group (UBG) President Zubair Tufail has called for the termination of the agreement reached between UBG and the Businessmen Panel (BMP).

Congratulating S.M Tanveer Patron-in-Chief of the United Business Group (UBG) on his unanimous nomination by UBG as its presidential candidate for the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI), Zubair Tufail said that, as UBG president, he proposed that the decision to form an alliance with BMP or Anjum Nisar should be withdrawn or cancelled.

He expressed his displeasure over messages sent by BMP Secretary General Haji Ghulam Ali, stating that Haji Ghulam Ali had disclosed a copy of the agreement reached between UBG and BMP. Reports of differences between the two groups over their alliance have also emerged.

Tufail said BMP leaders could not be trusted because they had broken alliances in the past.

He cited the example of the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry, alleging that BMP had broken its commitment after securing a two-year term there.

He also alleged that BMP leaders had entered into an agreement with Lahore Chamber President-elect Ali Hussam Asghar but subsequently violated it.

He further alleged that Haji Ghulam Ali was now creating discord over the agreement reached between UBG and BMP, a development that had sparked considerable resentment within UBG circles.

Zubair Tufail said UBG did not want an alliance with business leaders who lacked credibility, trustworthiness and principled standing.

He emphasized that the group should place its confidence in the votes of the business community and contest the elections rather than rely on alliances with leaders whose credibility was in question.
