ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Bahrain on Thursday agreed to deepen bilateral cooperation in trade, investment, energy and human resource development, with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressing confidence that a bilateral ministerial commission would give fresh impetus to ties.

The prime minister was speaking during a meeting with Bahrain’s Foreign Minister Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, who is visiting Islamabad to co-chair the third session of the Pakistan-Bahrain Joint Ministerial Commission (JMC) with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar.

The two sides also discussed regional and international developments and stressed the importance of continued consultation and coordination on matters of mutual interest, said a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office.

Al Zayani appreciated Pakistan’s constructive role and mediation efforts aimed at promoting peace and stability in the region, the statement said.

The Bahraini foreign minister conveyed the greetings of his country’s leadership to Sharif and reaffirmed Bahrain’s commitment to expanding cooperation with Pakistan in mutually beneficial areas.

Sharif said Pakistan remained committed to strengthening its longstanding ties with Bahrain, particularly in areas including trade, investment, energy and human resource development.

He reiterated Pakistan’s appreciation for its longstanding relations with Bahrain, describing them as rooted in shared values, mutual trust and close people-to-people contacts.

The prime minister expressed the hope that the third JMC session would contribute to broadening the “multifaceted” relationship between the two countries.
