Pakistan Navy seized narcotics worth approximately $96 million in two separate counter-narcotics operations in the Arabian Sea, the military’s media wing said on Wednesday.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Pakistan Navy Ship Yarmook, while deployed in the Arabian Sea, intercepted two dhows at extended ranges from the Pakistani coast.
The operations led to the recovery of around 850kg of ice and 2,000kg of hashish/cannabis from concealed compartments inside the vessels, ISPR said.
The seized narcotics have been taken into custody and will be handed over to the relevant authorities for further disposal and legal proceedings, it added.
ISPR said the successful operations reflected the Pakistan Navy’s sustained presence and vigilance, as well as its commitment to regional maritime security and combating illicit trafficking at sea.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif commended Pakistan Navy officers and personnel for the successful counter-narcotics operations.
The prime minister praised the professional competence of the naval personnel and said the timely operations were an effective measure against drug smuggling in Pakistan’s maritime domain, according to the Prime Minister’s Office.
