ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif have agreed to continue consultations and pursue dialogue with the opposition before taking any constitutional or legal steps with regard to the situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The president and the Prime Minister discussed the evolving political situation in the country.

According to well-placed sources, the understanding of resuming talks with the PTI was reached during a meeting, which was also attended by senior leaders of the PPP and PML-N.

The meeting focused on the overall political and security situation in the country, with particular attention given to the situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa following the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) long march.

Sources said members of the government’s negotiating committee also briefed the President and Prime Minister on the latest developments and the progress of the dialogue process.
