ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of the Federal Constitutional Court (FCC) Amin-ud-din Khan on Wednesday inaugurated a Smart Paperless Digital Court at the Islamabad High Court (IHC), as part of efforts to modernise judicial processes and expand the use of technology.
FCC Judge Justice Aamer Farooq accompanied the chief justice at the inauguration held in Courtroom No 1.
IHC Chief Justice Sardar Muhammad Sarfraz Dogar and other judges were also present.
The project was completed by the IHC Registrar’s Office and developed by the court’s IT Department under the supervision of its in-charge, Umar Rashid Dar, and his team, on the directions of the IHC chief justice.
The FCC chief justice also inaugurated a public Wi-Fi facility at the IHC building. The service has been made available to lawyers and litigants visiting the court.
The move was welcomed by lawyers in Islamabad, with the bar describing the adoption of technology as an important step towards bringing the administration of justice in line with modern requirements.
Separately, the IHC inaugurated a new Media Centre to facilitate journalists covering court proceedings.
Speaking at the inauguration, Chief Justice Dogar said the media was free to criticise or praise the judiciary as it deemed appropriate, adding that the centre was intended to support a free press.
The ceremony was attended by IHC Bar Association president Wajid Gilani, General Secretary Barrister Qasim Nawaz Abbasi, court law officers and others.
