Pakistan, Russia, Oman launch joint counter-terrorism exercises

Published Updated

Pakistan Army has commenced two joint military exercises with Russia and Oman to enhance counter-terrorism capabilities and interoperability, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Tuesday.

The 9th edition of the Pakistan-Russia Joint Exercise Druzhba-IX and the 2nd edition of the Pakistan-Oman Joint Exercise Washaq Al Jabal-II (Mountain Lynx-II) began at Cherat and the National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC), Pabbi, respectively.

According to the ISPR, the two-week exercises bring together contingents from the Pakistan Army, Russian Army and Royal Army of Oman.

The participating forces will share operational experience and refine counter-terrorism drills and procedures, while focusing on improving interoperability.

The exercises will also provide an opportunity for the troops to exchange best practices, hone combat skills and enhance tactical expertise, the military’s media wing said.

The joint training is expected to further strengthen bilateral defence cooperation between Pakistan and Russia, as well as Pakistan and Oman.
