Naqvi, Iranian counterpart discuss bilateral ties, regional situation

  • He is scheduled to hold talks with top Iranian officials on bilateral relations and cooperation during his visit
Published Updated

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Monday met his Iranian counterpart Eskandar Momeni in Tehran, where the two sides discussed bilateral relations, regional developments and ongoing cooperation between their interior ministries, his office said.

Naqvi arrived at Iran’s Ministry of Interior and was received by Momeni, with the meeting focusing on cooperation between the two countries in various sectors.

The Iranian interior minister thanked Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir for their efforts towards regional peace and stability.

“We are grateful for Pakistan’s continuous efforts to establish peace in the region,” Momeni said, adding that Pakistan’s recent visit had been “very beneficial.”

Naqvi said bilateral relations between Pakistan and Iran would become stronger in the coming period.

Naqvi is scheduled to hold talks with top Iranian officials on bilateral relations and cooperation during his visit.

Quoting informed sources, Tasnim earlier reported that Naqvi’s visit has no connection with Iran-US issues and that discussions during his trip will focus on bilateral relations and cooperation.

The Iranian news agency said Naqvi is neither carrying a message to Iran nor is Iran expected to send a message to the United States through him.

Tasnim further reported that Iran’s seven conditions have already been clearly communicated to the United States and that there has been no change in Tehran’s position.
