Published Updated

RAWALPINDI: The city police have taken human rights lawyer Imaan Zainab Mazari and her spouse, Hadi Ali Chattha, into custody after the Supreme Court suspended their sentences and granted them bail in a controversial Tweet case.

The city police arrested Mazari and Chattha before their release from Adiala Jail. The action was taken after the Supreme Court suspended their sentences in the case.

The couple was rearrested in another case registered at Kohsar Police Station. Hadi and Chattha were produced before an Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC), which sent them to jail on judicial remand.

On January 24, a Sessions Court sentenced Mazari and Chattha to a total of 17 years in jail on multiple charges under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA).
