SAO PAULO: Brazilian farmers had planted 0.4percent of the expected area for their 2026/27 soybean crop as of last Thursday, agribusiness consultancy AgRural said on Monday, up from 0.05percent a week earlier.
Parana has been leading the pace, as farmers step up planting during breaks in the rains that have been affecting the state. Top grain-producing state Mato Grosso began sowing in irrigated areas last week, AgRural said.
Separately, planting of Brazil’s 2026/27 first corn crop reached 22percent of the estimated area in the center-south region, compared with 17percent a week earlier and 17percent a year ago.
Fieldwork remains concentrated in southern Brazil, as is typical for September, and is being led by Rio Grande do Sul state, where frosts recorded last week caused losses in some fields, AgRural added.
