LAHORE: Punjab Agriculture Minister Syed Ashiq Hussain Kirmani said on Tuesday that one million farmers are currently benefiting from the Kissan Card, while more than 214,000 farmers have applied for the Green Tractor Programme Phase-IV.
Chairing a high-level meeting at the Civil Secretariat, the minister said 10,000 tractors would be distributed through a transparent balloting process under Phase-IV, with a subsidy of Rs750,000 on each tractor.
The meeting was attended by Agriculture Secretary Punjab Shakeel Ahmad Mian, Special Secretary Agriculture Agha Nabeel Akhtar, Deputy Secretary Agriculture (Planning) Kashif Bashir, Directors General Agriculture Chaudhry Abdul Hameed, Naveed Asmat Kahloon, Engineer Mushtaq Mir and Rana Tajammal Hussain, among other senior officers.
Kirmani said technical guidance and financial assistance were also being provided to beneficiaries who had acquired land under the ‘Apna Khet Apna Rozgar Programme.’
He added that the final selection of 1,500 young agricultural graduates had been completed. The newly selected graduates would commence practical field activities from September 16, he said.
Agriculture Secretary Shakeel Ahmad Mian said modern agricultural machinery was being promoted throughout Punjab under the Chief Minister Punjab High-Tech Farm Mechanization Financing Programme, aimed at facilitating farmers and improving mechanisation in the province.
