KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has paid rich tribute to the martyrs and national heroes on the occasion of Defence and Martyrs Day, saying that September 6 reminds the nation of the unforgettable sacrifices made for the defence of the motherland.

In his message on the occasion of Defence Day on Sunday, the Chief Minister said the nation paid homage to those, who sacrificed their lives for Pakistan’s security, sovereignty and independence.

He said the brave soldiers of the Pakistan Army had foiled the enemy’s nefarious designs during the 1965 war.

“The role of the brave sons of Sindh in the defence of Pakistan is a glorious chapter of our history,” Syed Murad Ali Shah said, adding that the land of Sindh had always sacrificed its sons for the defence and security of Pakistan.

He said the martyrs had laid down their lives in defence of the country’s borders, while the courage and bravery of Pakistan’s national heroes remained a matter of pride for the nation.

He highlighted the strategic importance of Sindh’s ports and coastline in the defence of Pakistan and said the brave personnel of the Pakistan Navy had also foiled the enemy’s designs on the maritime front.

“Defence of the homeland does not mean merely defending its borders, it also means protecting Pakistan’s unity, peace and national solidarity,” the Chief Minister said.

He said that the day reminded the nation that Pakistan’s strength lay in its armed forces and the unity of its 250 million people.
