ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday directed that the proposed Daanish University be developed on a model distinct from conventional universities, with a focus on providing quality education to talented students from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Presiding over a review meeting on the university, the prime minister said its system should be designed to meet international standards and asked the authorities to submit a detailed plan, including a construction timeline, within two weeks.
He said providing international-standard education and professional training to students from poor and middle-income families was one of the main objectives behind the establishment of the university.
Sharif also directed that the institution’s outreach programme ensure that children from economically disadvantaged and middle-income families were made aware of the university and had access to it.
The meeting was briefed by the Daanish University board on plans to recruit internationally renowned faculty and on the construction plan and its various stages.
It was told that the university would seek the services of faculty with degrees from leading international universities.
Efforts to engage a prominent US college for academic collaboration were also in the final stages, the meeting was told.
The participants were briefed on the proposed faculty and recent discussions with the US college on the academic system to be introduced at the university.
The meeting was further told that the campus would be built according to a state-of-the-art design based on international standards, with bidding for construction to begin shortly. The proposed design and plan were also presented.
