ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has notified the amended income tax return form for tax year 2026.

According to an SRO.1495(I)/2026 issued by the FBR on Thursday, the FBR has amended Income Tax Rules, 2002. In the aforesaid Rules in the Second Schedule, after Part-II-ZD, the following new Pan-ll-ZE. Part-l!-ZF, Part-lI-ZG and Part-II-ZH shall be added.

A tax expert said that the issuance of a new SRO introducing changes to the Income Tax Return at this stage is entirely confusing and unjustified, particularly when the statutory deadline for filing the return is 30 September 2026.

Such last-minute amendments will create serious legal and technical difficulties for taxpayers and tax practitioners, he stated.

The FBR must immediately clarify these changes; otherwise, the submission of returns within the statutory timeframe may not be possible, he added.

Amendments details are not given in news. But, during the filing time of tax returns, these decisions show the non expertise and non farsightness of FBR Officials.
