Published Updated

KARACHI: Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab on Wednesday inaugurated a rehabilitation and improvement project on Jahangir Road between Guru Mandir and Teen Hatti.

According to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) statement on Wednesday, the Mayor said the Rs 360 million (USD 1.3 million) project, covered 1.4 kilometres of the two-way road, which was widened from 26 to 32 feet.

The work included laying 252,000 square feet of 80-millimetre paving blocks and 70,000 square feet of 60-millimetre blocks, as well as asphalt base and concrete works covering 50,000 square feet each, he said.

Damaged sewerage lines were also rehabilitated under the project, while more than 11,800 running feet of trenching was carried out for a 36-inch-diameter stormwater drain.

The sewerage network was connected to the Lyari River to improve drainage, while 45 manholes were constructed, according to the statement.

Lane markings, kerbs and footpaths were completed on both sides of the road, while 80 solar-powered lights were installed and six damaged light poles replaced.

He said the rehabilitation was expected to improve traffic flow and movement in the area and help drain rainwater more efficiently.

Deputy Mayor Salman Abdullah Murad and members of the city council attended the inauguration ceremony.
