ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Sunday condemned what it described as the abduction of party MNA Haji Imtiaz while he was travelling from Mandi Bahauddin to Peshawar to attend a party meeting.
In a statement, PTI said Imtiaz was taken by unidentified individuals and called for his immediate and safe recovery.
The party said the incident raised serious concerns about the rule of law, civil liberties and the safety of elected representatives and political workers.
PTI said Imtiaz had been travelling to attend a political activity and that the disappearance of an elected lawmaker raised questions about the protection of fundamental rights and the state’s constitutional responsibilities.
The party called on authorities to identify those responsible and bring them to justice according to law.
It also urged the federal and Punjab governments, Punjab Police, district administration and other relevant institutions to take immediate action and keep the public informed about the investigation and Imtiaz’s whereabouts.
PTI said that if political or state pressure was found to be involved, the incident would represent a serious threat to democratic principles and constitutional rights.
The party rejected what it called attempts to intimidate or silence its leaders and workers and said it would pursue the matter through legal and democratic forums until Imtiaz was safely recovered.
