PM welcomes Moody’s upgrade

Published Updated

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday congratulated the nation after Moody’s Investors Service upgraded Pakistan’s sovereign credit rating from Caa1 to B3, describing the move as a sign of growing international confidence in the country’s economic policies and reforms.

The prime minister welcomed the improvement in Pakistan’s sovereign credit rating and praised the government’s economic team for its efforts to stabilise the economy and strengthen the external sector.

The prime minister said Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Chief of Defence Forces and Field Marshal Asim Munir, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, other ministers and relevant officials deserved appreciation for their efforts.

“The improvement in Pakistan’s credit rating reflects global confidence in the government’s economic policies and reforms,” he added.

He said recognition by international financial institutions and rating agencies of the improvement in Pakistan’s economic situation was encouraging.

“Pakistan’s economy is moving towards stability, and the improvement in ratings by international institutions is clear evidence of this,” he said.

Sharif said the government had taken effective measures to stabilise the economy and improve the external sector. Continued efforts and reforms, he added, were increasing international confidence in Pakistan.

The PM said the government would accelerate the reform process to put the economy on sustainable foundations.

“Our destination is to make Pakistan a strong, self-reliant and sustainable economy,” he added.
