ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar on Saturday accused Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) of violating court directives by politicising the medical examination of its founder Imran Khan, maintaining that the government and administration had fully complied with the court’s orders and ensured transparency throughout the process.

Speaking on the matter, Tarar said the government had never stopped medical treatment of the PTI founder and rejected what he described as “false propaganda” by the party regarding his healthcare.

He said Imran Khan underwent a medical examination in accordance with the court’s directions and that his sister was also present at the time. “The administration completely followed the orders of the honourable court,” he said, adding that facts regarding the process were shared with the public at every stage.

The minister said the government had consistently maintained that health issues should not be politicised, including when it was in opposition, and that its position remained unchanged.

Tarar questioned who had gathered people in groups outside Shifa Hospital and who had held a press conference despite what he said were clear court directions against politicising the matter.

He alleged that Imran Khan’s sister and PTI had violated the court’s instructions and acted contrary to assurances given before the court.

The information minister also referred to the Punjab Bar Council and Pakistan Bar Council, saying they had distanced themselves from PTI’s political campaign and warned against the use of their names for political purposes. He said the councils had also clarified that statements made by individual members should not be considered their institutional position.

Tarar said the government, in its review petition, had raised the broader question of ensuring equal facilities for all prisoners.

“Imran Khan’s treatment was never stopped and has continued,” the minister said, urging that the issue of his health should not be turned into a political controversy.
