LAHORE: Appreciating Pakistan’s role as a mediator in the Iran-US war, German Ambassador Ina Lepel expressed her determination to further expand relations between Pakistan and Germany in various fields, including education, trade and agriculture.
She said this during a meeting with the Governor of Punjab, Sardar Saleem Haider Khan, at the Governor’s House.
During the meeting, both the dignitaries discussed ways to further strengthen bilateral relations between Pakistan and Germany.
The governor thanked the German Chancellor for appreciating Pakistan’s civil and military leadership’s role in maintaining peace during the US-Iran conflict.
The governor said that Pakistan is a proponent of global peace and has consistently advocated for peaceful resolution of conflicts.
He said that the role of Pakistan’s military and civil leadership in de-escalating tensions between the US and Iran was appreciated at the global level.
The governor said that tensions between Iran and the US had had negative effects on global economy, including that of Pakistan’s.
He said that war was not a solution to problems.
The only way to sustainable peace was negotiations.
The governor thanked the German government for its continued support for Pakistan’s GSP Plus status and hoped that Germany would continue to support Pakistan in maintaining its GSP Plus status.
He said that steps should also be taken to increase trade between the two countries.
The governor said that a large number of Pakistani students go to Germany for higher education.
He said that exchange programmes should be started between students of the two countries.
