KARACHI: Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab has said that Rs 9.25 billion has been allocated for industrial areas, while development works will be completed by December.
Speaking at a meeting of the Federal B Area Trade and Industry (FBAATI) he said that negative propaganda is always being made against the provincial government.
He said that development funds have been released to industrial areas for the third time, now it is the responsibility of industrial organizations to complete development works quickly.
He said that Rs. 9.25 billion has been transferred to the fund account for all industrial areas of Karachi. Federal B Area Trade and Industry is at the top in development works compared to other industrial areas.
He said that development works will be completed by December through the public-private partnership formula. The industrialists have been told that the government will provide the funds and they will do the work. I will inform the Sindh Chief Minister that the industrialists are investing the funds given on the roads.
The Mayor of Karachi said that more funds will be allocated for the development of industrial areas in the next financial year as well.
He thanked the leadership of the Pakistan Peoples Party and said that the leadership has provided funds for the fire brigade.
Murtaza Wahab said that development work worth Rs 7 billion will start for the modern fire brigade system.
New recruitments will also be made in the fire brigade department, while a letter has been sent to the Sindh government for permission for new recruitments.
He said that the ban on recruitment will end soon after the cabinet approval. Our 17 fire tenders were damaged, which are being restored and the budget has also been approved in this regard.
The Mayor of Karachi said that the availability of water is the biggest problem in Karachi, however, water is not just a problem in Karachi but the whole of Pakistan at this time. There are difficulties regarding water shortage, while the industrial zone requires 150 million gallons of water per day.
He said that industries are currently meeting their water needs through sub-soil, while the revenue from sub-soil has started coming to water and sewerage. Pakistan’s first industrial water park has been made operational for testing in Haroonabad.
Murtaza Wahab said that 35 million gallons of water will be provided to industries by passing the water through a treatment cycle in the industrial water park. The fixed water received by the industries from the treatment plant will be sold at the government rate.
He said that the Chairman PPP will inaugurate the industrial water park in September. Moreover, Pakistan’s first breast surgery center will also be inaugurated in September.
Murtaza Wahab said that the situation in Punjab has worsened after the rains. The big words of the Punjab government are coming before him, however, he clarified that he will not criticize the Punjab government but rather stand with it in this situation.
Referring to Mustafa Kamal’s press conference, the Mayor of Karachi said that the issue of the new province will not be resolved through a press conference. According to the constitution, a resolution will have to be presented in the assembly for the establishment of a new province.
Murtaza Wahab said that the biggest problem of the country is the decision-making process, while files are hidden in the bureaucracy system, which has become a big challenge. Despite the ECC’s decision, the bureaucracy is not able to solve the problem of PNSC’s USD 20 million.
FABATI President Sheikh Tahseen thanked Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah for providing a grant of Rs 860 million.
He said that the Commissioner Karachi and DC Central are continuously cooperating with the FABATI zone.
Sheikh Tahseen said that after 2018, the grant was received in 2026.
He suggested an annual maintenance budget to the Chief Minister Sindh, while the Chief Minister Sindh has assured to provide an annual maintenance budget to FABATI.
