ISLAMABAD: After about three years behind bars, former prime minister Imran Khan was transferred from the Adiala Jail to a private hospital in the federal capital on Friday, following an order by Supreme Court that cited his fundamental right to health and safety.

Khan, 73, the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), was taken under heavy security to Shifa International Hospital, where doctors are expected to conduct a comprehensive medical examination, including tests related to his eyesight, blood pressure and cardiac health.

Before his arrival, Islamabad’s police chief, Inspector General Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, and other senior officials inspected the hospital and reviewed security arrangements.

About 700 police officers were deployed inside and around the hospital, according to security officials, turning the medical facility into a heavily guarded compound as Khan arrived.
