RAWALPINDI: An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Tuesday rejected incarcerated Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founding chairman Imran Khan’s sister Aleema Khan’s plea seeking to order forensic examination of a USB containing a video from an international laboratory submitted before the court in the November 26 case.
ATC judge Amjad Ali Shah, while announcing his reserved judgment, dismissed Aleema Khan’s application seeking an order for forensic examination of the USB via an international laboratory.
The USB was presented by Aleema Khan’s witness Fatahullah Burki. The USB contained videos with respect to the November 26th protest. The court approved the prosecution’s request and rejected Aleema Khan’s application.
The court observed that the material contained in the USB had already become part of the judicial record and that the videos contained in it were irrelevant to the case.
During the previous hearing, Aleema Khan’s counsel Faisal Malik requested the court to order forensic examination of the USB containing videos through an international laboratory. The USB contained videos regarding the announcement of the protest on November 22, which was reported in print and electronic media, he said.
He requested the court to keep this USB in court custody. According to law, the court can examine any document.
During the hearing, Special Prosecutor Zaheer Shah, while objecting to the petition, said the defence counsel has not produced any video or USB before the court since the start of the trial. Presenting such a fabricated video at the last stage of the trial is tantamount to wasting time of the court, he said.
He said there is no executive footage in this USB. This petition does not fall under the jurisdiction of this court, he said, adding that during the trial, the defence counsel had accepted the report of the Punjab Forensic Science Agency.
The court adjourned the hearing of the case till August 25.
