ISLAMABAD: Ambassadors of China, the United States, and Britain held separate meetings with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar here on Friday to congratulate Pakistan on Independence Day and discuss the current regional situation.
According to a Foreign Office statement, Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zaidong, US Chargé d’Affaires Natalie A Baker, and British High Commissioner Jane Marriott separately called on the DPM/FM and conveyed warm felicitations to Pakistan’s leadership and people on Independence Day.
During his meeting with the Chinese ambassador, the DPM/FM expressed condolences over the tragic death of a Chinese mountaineer following an avalanche at Broad Peak in Gilgit-Baltistan and assured full facilitation for the repatriation of the deceased’s remains. Ambassador Jiang Zaidong appreciated Pakistan’s prompt assistance and support following the incident.
The two sides also exchanged views on regional developments and other matters of mutual interest. Ambassador Jiang Zaidong extended warm congratulations to the people and leadership of Pakistan on Independence Day, reaffirming the close and time-tested ties between the two countries.
The DPM/FM and US Chargé d’Affaires Natalie A. Baker discussed Pakistan-US bilateral cooperation and recent regional developments. Dar underscored the importance of dialogue and diplomacy and the implementation of the Islamabad MoU in letter and spirit to ease tensions between the United States and Iran and ensure regional peace and stability.
Dar appreciated the positive trajectory in Pakistan-U.S. relations and stressed the importance of dialogue and diplomacy for lasting peace. He emphasized that the implementation of the Islamabad MoU of June 18 in letter and spirit was the only way forward. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to regional peace and security while safeguarding its national interests.
The US Chargé d’Affaires appreciated Pakistan’s constructive role in promoting regional peace and stability and conveyed felicitations to the DPM/FM on Pakistan’s Independence Day.
British High Commissioner to Pakistan Jane Marriott also held a meeting with Senator Dar at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday.
The DPM/FM appreciated the positive momentum in Pakistan-UK relations. He recalled his recent meeting with UK Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband on the sidelines of the ASEAN Regional Forum in Manila and highlighted the importance of sustained high-level contacts. They discussed key areas of mutual interest and ways to further strengthen bilateral cooperation.
Regional and international developments also figured in the discussion. The DPM/FM stressed that the Islamabad MoU should be implemented by the parties in letter and spirit and reaffirmed that dialogue and diplomacy remain the only way forward to address outstanding issues.
